Hillary Chipunza’s song TV Room, featuring Gary Mapanzure, was voted the best song in the Best Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB and Soul category at the All Africa Music Awards (Afrima) which were held in Lagos, Nigeria a fortnight ago.
Chipunza, famously known as Hilzy was over the moon and expressed joy at being recognised as one of the best musicians in Africa.
“It’s such an ecstatic feeling especially as a creative musician, knowing that your works are impacting on lives and actually being recognised in places or parts of the world you have not even set foot in yet,” said Hilzy.
The superstar hinted on new projects that he is working on as he seeks to maintain his dominance.
“Definitely more work is loading as we speak, I’m working on some new stuff to be released in a few weeks,” said the award winner.
Hilzy also expressed his gratitude to all his fans for the love shown by voting for him.
“I would also want to thank everyone who voted, data is now expensive but people managed to vote, I really appreciate the love,” he said.
His manager, Siphamandla Dinga, also expressed his delight after his prodigy fended off competition from Africa’s best.
“Bringing the award home is a good step in the right direction for Hilzy and it is a key to open doors for us, for any potential folks to work with in future,” said Dinga. Hilzy was not the only Zimbabwean nominated for the Afrima awards, the list included, Vusa Blaqs, Jah Prayzah, Tammy Moyo, Ammara Brown, Winky D and Nadia Nakai. The South Africa-based Zimbabwean, Nakai Nakai walked away with the Best Female Artiste in Southern Africa and Best African Rapper/Lyricist award.
