ZIFA TAKE OVER Bob @92

THE Zimbabwe Football Association will this year take over the running of the Bob92 Super Cup taking over from an organising committee which over the years has been managing the annual tournament.

a?The resolution to take over the running of the Bob92 Cup was made at a Zifa board meeting held last month. It was at the same meeting where the bans on all individuals implicated in the Asiagate scandal were lifted. We are still working on the format of the tournament and the details will be communicated in due course,a? explained Zifa communications manager Xolisani Gwesela.

The Bob92 Super Cup is meant to celebrate the birthday of President Robert Mugabe who turns 92 on 21 February.

The decision by the Philip Chiyangwa-led Zifa executive to take over the affairs of the annual cup is seen as a move to ensure the smooth running of the tournament after a string of boobs by the organising committee in 2014 and last year.

In 2014, the organisers of the annual cup led by chairman Stan Kasukuwere used regional football body Cosafa tickets in an elimination match between Highlanders and Harare City FC at Barbourfields.

Instead of being issued Bob90 tickets upon entry spectators were handed tickets of a Cosafa Senior Challenge Cup match played on October 31 2009 between South Africa and Mozambique.

Last year scores of fans were left frustrated after encountering difficulties in gaining entry at Rufaro Stadium for the final of the Bob91 Super Cup after a few gates were opened at the venue.

Rowdy fans resorted to scaling the high security walls while others clashed with police officers to gain entry in the stadium to watch the final between Dynamos and Caps United.

It remains to be seen if defending champions Dynamos will take part in the Bob92 Super Cup owing to a two-week tour of Malawi and Tanzania as part of their pre-season training scheduled for the end of the month and early March.

Dynamos have been invited by Big Bullets of Malawi and Tanzania giants Young Africans for a series of friendly matches.

DeMbare are likely to play two games in Blantyre and Lilongwe while in Malawi before they proceed to Tanzania where they will play three games.
