A 32-YEAR-OLD woman from Bellevue suburb in Bulawayo was thrashed by her husband as punishment for asking for money to buy food.

This was heard when Job Njanje appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Busani Sibanda charged with physical abuse as defined in Section 3 (a) (i) as read with Section 4 of the Domestic Violence Act Chapter 5:16.

Job pleaded guilty to the charge and was sentenced to nine months imprisonment. Five months of the sentence were suspended on condition that he pays a fine of $30000.

The other four months were suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour. The court heard that on 1 September 2022 and at around 6.30pm, Memory Njanje arrived home and found her husband with the children.

Job then confronted her and asked her why there was no food in the house. The court further heard that Memory then courted the anger of her husband when she responded asking him for money so that she could buy the food.

Angered by her response, Job then assaulted Memory with fists on her face three times. Memory reported the matter to the police leading to her husband’s arrest.
