Winky D clinches International Reggae award

Zimdancehall gaffer Winky D is proving to be a force to reckon with both locally and internationally, as he has scooped an accolade at the International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA).

Winky D was nominated in the best African Dancehall Entertainer category, tussling with the continent’s heavyweights, Patoranking, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and Star Zee.

The 40th edition of the international awards ceremony was held in Jamaica on 7 May.

IRAWMA acknowledges and honours accomplishments and contributions of reggae and world music artistes, including: songwriters, performers, promoters and musicians.

Launched in 1982 as the brainchild of Ephraim Martin, IRAWMA has recognised illustrious musicians such as Vibes Kartel, Buju Banton and Popcaan among others.

The latest win is a feather in the cap for Winky D who has stood the test of time in the African Reggae and Dancehall sphere

On international stages, Winky D also scooped the All-Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) award in January.
