Outspoken Highlanders technical director Cosmas a?Tsanoa? Zulu says it will not be ideal for them to give excuses of building a team for next season as people cannot afford to talk of Bosso without trophies to show.
a?We are celebrating 90 years and we say Thank You to Mgcini Mhlophe who made it possible for us to gather at the clubhouse and enjoy some meata.we cannot afford to hide behind a finger of building a team for next season. There is no Highlanders without trophies,a? said Zulu at Bossoas clubhouse last Saturday where players, executive members and fans had a get together which was reportedly part of their 90th anniversary celebrations.
Bosso had an indifferent 2015 season campaign and prior to the start of the 2016 season, the club recruited a new head coach Erol Akbay and a number of young players that include Prince Dube, Adrian Silla , Danmore Chakwana and Benson Phiri.
The youngsters are gradually being introduced into the senior teamas starting lineup, a development that has suggested to many that Akbay and his other technical team members were building a team for next season.
The NetOne Easycall Cup was the last piece of silverware that graced the Bossoas trophy cabinet after the Bulawayo football giantsa 1-0 win over city rivals Chicken Inn, in last yearas final played at the teamas home ground Barbourfields Stadium.
Veteran Ralph Matema converted from the spot in the 40th minute to ensure Highlanders clinched the cup. The jubilant Bosso fans, who took their wild celebrations to the city centre, had goalkeeper Ariel Sibanda to thank as he made numerous saves as Chicken Inn bombarded Bosso, who had an unstable midfield, left, right and centre.
With the win Bosso banked $80 000 while the defending Premier Soccer League champions were $50 000 richer.
This was a good way for Bosso to finish a season in which they struggled all the way and finished a distant sixth in the 16-team Castle Lager Premier Soccer League.
