Imagine, receiving shocking and saddening news that your soulmate has been shot dead, while you are grooving at a party.

Well, this was the manner in which South African multi-award-winning rapper Kiernan ‘AKA’ Forbes’ death news reached his girlfriend Nadia Nakai, while she was attending Y.FM DJ Ayanda MVP’s birthday party in Johannesburg.

The God’s Will singer was shot dead in a drive-by shooting on Florida Road on 10 February and South African Police Services (SAPS), are still conducting investigations on what transpired on the scene which can be concluded as a possible “assassination.”

Theirs was a blossoming love story that had just turned a year, filled with romance, happiness, and bliss in the momentum that Nadia Nakai and AKA shared together.

The couple adored each other. For the little time they shared together, the pair were inseparable and appeared almost everywhere together.

So pure their affair was to the extent that they even had matching tattoos inked on their bodies.

Their love was genuine such that their romance is well-documented on their social media pages, which their fans idolised and continued cherishing even after AKA’s death.

As February is the month of love, Nadia and AKA’s love has to be celebrated and in so doing, on 13 February – the eve of Valentine’s Day, South Africa Broadcasting Cooperation’s The Insider SA featured a special segment on The Love Story of the two.

The magazine TV show aired at 18:00 on SABC 3.

For those who didn’t watch it, the show was also streamed live on the show’s Facebook page which can still be accessed on the internet. A repeat of the show will take place on Saturday (18 February) at 13: 00 on SABC 3.

Meanwhile, funeral arrangements for AKA have been released by his family. A memorial service will take place today (February 17) at the Sandton Convention Centre at 3 pm. He will be laid to rest in a private provincial funeral tomorrow (18 February).

“As the Forbes family, we would like to acknowledge the outpouring of love we have received over the past few days. Kiernan wasn’t just loved by us as a family, but by the nation, as we’ve seen from loved ones, friends, industry colleagues, media tributes, and the legacy.

“It is our wish to celebrate the life of Kiernan with those he touched and impacted through his gift of music. His memorial will therefore be open to the public as well as streamed online,” read a statement released by the Kiernan family.

AKA lives behind his daughter Kairo whom he bore with DJ Zinhle.
