A STUDENT from Gobo area in Silobela, Midlands province, committed suicide after his pregnant teenage lover eloped to him.
The deceased, Tendai Mureriwa (21), could not fathom the stark reality of becoming a father. His lover, Nyasha Moyo (18), told him that she was bulging with his seed and he became worried.
According to a source in the family, Tendai initially threatened to commit suicide if his lover insisted that she was pregnant.
But Nyasha stuck to her guns.
Tendai could not accept the a�?sada�? news and decided to end his life.
The deceaseda��s father, Patric Mureriwa, explained how Tendai committed suicide.
a�?He woke up early in the morning last Friday and went to the shops where he spent the whole day drinking beer. He came home at around 9pm. The following day in the morning his lover came and told us that she was pregnant. But Tendai denied and said he could not be the one because he was at school in Bulawayo where he was pursuing his studies,a�? he said.
Patric said they were shocked to wake up in the morning to find Tendai hanging in his bedroom hut.
Midlands police spokesperson Joel Goko confirmed the incident.
a�?I can confirm that Tendai Mureriwa from Gobo area in Silobela under Chief Ruya committed suicide last Saturday.
Investigations are underway,a�? said Insp Goko.
Insp Goko said the deceaseda��s body has been taken for post mortem.
