Somnandi for MCAs

Veteran South African maskandi kingpin Thokozani Langa who is famously known as Somnandi has been announced as the guest performer at this year’s Matabeleland Cultural Awards (MCA) which will be held at the Youth Arena, White City, Bulawayo on 25 and 26 August.

The MCA annual awards were launched in 2019. 

They mainly target traditional dance groups, carvers, maskandi musicians, traditional regalia designers, traditional food cooks, imbube ensembles, local indigenous language authors, rural hut painters, weavers, potters and poetry, among others.

At this year’s celebrations, the guest of honour will be Chief Fuyana.

Philani Ncube, who is MCA chief executive officer said all was set for the event to take place.

“We are expecting to have Somnandi (Thokozani Langa) who is a South African Maskandi musician as our main performer. 

“We are inviting exhibitors like weavers, carvers, crafts work persons, traditional food cooks and local indigenous language authors to be part of us on our annually held awards,” said Ncube.

Meanwhile, Ncube said the exhibition will start off at Alliance Francaise Bulawayo where they will hold an exhibition of local indigenous language books including Kalanga, Ndebele, Xhosa, Tonga, Venda, Nambya, on August 18 from 10am to 3pm.
