THE titanic battle in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One championship race has got just a little bit crazy with the biggest incentives, in the history of local football, being showered and dangled to the players.
Each Scottland player will be rewarded with an Aqua car if they win their next match against Herentals Under-20.
Yesterday, five Scottland players received an Aqua for their 3-1 win over Harare City.
The titanic battle features leaders MWOS and challengers Scottland, who are just refusing to throw in the towel.
Yesterday, MWOS thrashed CCLEE Mhangura 5-0 at the Coppermine to remain in charge of the super race.
Wisdom Mutasa and Everson Feremba scored a brace while Tinotenda Mutyambizi added the fifth.
Scottland kept themselves in the race with the win over a battling Harare City at Mkushi Academy.
Cleopas Dube and Ronald Pfumbidzai scored for Scottland while Harare City, who were excellent yesterday and levelled the score after the break, also conceded an own goal.
Five outstanding Scottland players in yesterday’s win will each get a Toyota Aqua courtesy of Harare businessman, Sir Wicknell Chivayo.
Addressing players in the dressing room at the Mkushi Academy after the match, Sir Wicknell tasked businessman Fally Ipupa (Junior) to identify the five players to get the Aqua vehicles.
Sir Wicknell said although he was disappointed by the number of missed chances, the overall result was impressive to warrant the rewards.
He pledged to give each player an Aqua vehicle if Scottland beat Herentals Under-20 in the upcoming Match day 37 match at Rufaro.
“If you beat Herentals (next match) everyone will get an Aqua, “ said Sir Wicknell.
Scottland players will get the US$2000 bonus that had initially been pledged for a six-goal victory over Harare City.
Club president Scott Sakupwanya said he was so impressed by yesterday’s performance that he decided to waive the scoreline target he had placed on the US$2000 pledge.
“It was an impressive performance and they will now get the US$2000 bonus despite failing to secure the six-goal margin that I had set ahead of the match,” said Scott.
He went to the dressing room, together with Sir Wicknell and other benefactors, soon after the match, to give the players the good news. (H Metro)
