While she was nominated for a Nama award last week for her outstanding work as a musician in 2015, songbird Selmor Mtukudzi is eyeing acting as the next challenge to conquer in her career.

Last weekas nomination in the Outstanding Female Musician of the year category crowned what was a stellar year for Selmor, whose stock rose on the international stage after featuring on the blockbuster Strong Girl song which featured a line-up of some of the biggest talents from around the continent.

Not content with sitting on her laurels, the actress was spotted earlier in the year answering a casting call for a role in a movie.

For Selmor, although some might not be aware, acting was her first love as she featured in films and commercials as a child.

a?I do have a background in acting because I did a film when I was younger and was also in a lot of commercials.

People are not aware but I started out acting before the singing so what I am basically doing now is reconnecting with my roots as an actress,a? she said.

The songbird added that although she had an internationally recognised name, she did not want t to pursue international roles as yet.

a?As with my music I build my base from home. Everything you do has to be started from the grassroots and so you have to build from the ground up. This was the case with my career as a musician and I want to follow the same blueprint when it comes to my acting,a? she said.

Although she has become known as a crusader for the rights of women, the songstress said she was not looking for roles that fell in line with her ideals although she wouldnat turn it down if given the opportunity.

a?Generally I donat pick and choose roles and the idea is to portray characters that are far from you character wise.

That is a challenge that I look forward to but I wouldnat turn down a script. I would certainly jump at the opportunity,a? she said.
