Seagirl dusts self up after awards snub

BEING nominated for an award is every artiste’s dream, winning an award is confirmation that they have made, so 2019 is a nightmare year for multi-award-winning Seagirl, born Novuyo Dube, as she was overlooked for this year’s Skyz Metro Music Awards nominees list.

Mostly known for her hit song AEIOU, Seagirl expressed disappointment at not being nominated.

“It’s fine by me and just like any other hard-working artiste, I’d have loved to be at least voted for but what I can say is that I don’t know what criteria they used. A new year is dawning, I will keep on working to attain bigger rewards,” said Seagirl.

Seagirl’s track Bambelela was tipped to be in the running to be voted song of the year, but it did not make the cut.

“Oh well, like I said, maybe I didn’t deserve it, but I feel like Bambelela could have made it, that’s all I can say,” she said.

Best female artist category?

“I don’t know the standards used, but I have been doing the most this year,” she said.

Seagirl became the first Bulawayo artiste to walk away with an award at the inaugural Star FM Music Awards which were held early this year in Harare.

She also received two awards at the Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAAs) held in June for Outstanding Female Artiste and Song of the Year — A.E.I.O.U.

Seagirl told B-Metro she was not going to dwell much on the disappointment of being left out as she was working on her debut album to be released next year.

“A debut album titled, Love, bitter and sweet, which is definitely a love project is still in the making, it is yet to be released, maybe early next year or thereafter. I have released one track from the project titled The way you make me feel,” she said.
