TWELVE soccer teams are set to clash for honours in the R8,000 in the Diba tournament tomorrow which is set to herald the busy festive season.

Football tournaments occupy communities during the November to January as players from different teams return home to play with their hommies.

The participating teams are: Diba FC, Gwambe FC, Tshangwa FC, Shilla FC, Tshinjika FC, Nyabane FC, Ntoli FC, Nhopemano FC, Qhosha FC, Hebron FC, Fakanyawo FC and Kandana FC.

The tournament will also see netball teams clashing.

The tournament is sponsored by the Diba Business Community.

One of the tournament organisers Max Manqadi said the aim of tournament is to keep youths away from activities likely to harm their lives while exposing talent.

“We have 12 teams and they will be put into two groups which will see the top two from each going through to the semi-finals and those who win will clash in the final,” he said.

Manqadi said the winners will take home the prizemoney of R8000 and a brand new kit.

He said the tournament marks the beginning of the festive season soccer tournaments.

“Part of what we are doing this for is to keep youths busy and away from activities like drug and substance abuse. We also want to expose hidden talent in rural areas and foster friendship within neighbouring communities to reduce cases of fights between youths,” he said.

The other big tournament is set for Christmas Day with higher prizemoney and fewer teams.
