AS games continue coming thick and fast in the 2024 Premier Soccer League season, B-Metro Sport shares the action  in numbers.

At the end of Week Six, 104 goals had been scored with Yadah FC picking up their first win in a controversial 3-2 thriller against TelOne.

Of the 104 goals scored thus far, three are own goals and six have been scored from the penalty spot.

The goal tally in the first six games might be impressive but the league is yet to witness a hat-trick. Some football fans might argue that it’s still early days and hat-tricks will come.

But credit should be given to the three strikers that have so far managed to score braces and they are Wilfred Muvirimi (FC Platinum), Lot Chiwunga (Caps United) and Brighton Ncube (Highlanders).

We have seen one red card, not from a player, but coach Lloyd Chitembwe, the Caps United head coach, when his side played against Herentals at Kariba’s Nyamhunga Stadium last month.

He told the media that he was a victim of abuse and pleaded with authorities to take corrective measures by identifying the abusive fans and giving matching punishment.

A short video clip of the mayhem widely circulated on social media.

“It’s sad. I don’t want to lie. I’m a football coach, I’m doing my job and get insults and abuse, why? Of course, I got a red card and I was walking back to the dressing room when someone started shouting insults at me and threatened to beat me up. For what? If I may ask, just because they are fans, do they have the right to insult and threaten officials as they wish,” said Chitembwe.

The 104 goals have come from 81 different players.

Lynoth Chikuhwa of Highlanders is the leading goal scorer with four goals followed by Never Rauzhi of Bulawayo Chiefs as well as Bosso’s Brighton Ncube with three goals each.

Walter Musona, a Simba Bhora striker, also sits on three goals.

14 players Evans Katema (Bikita Minerals), Lot (Caps United), Ralph Kawondera (Caps United), Michael Charamba (Chicken Inn) Muvirimi (FC Platinum), Jaun Mutudza (FC Platinum), Anelka Chivandire (Green Fuel), Donald Ngoma (Green Fuel), Melikhaya Ncube (Highlanders), Tymon Machope (Simba Bhora), Polyester Shoko (Tel One), Eric Mafirenyika (Tel One), Blessing Sibanda (Tel One), Blessed Ndereki (Yadah FC) have each scored two goals.
