THE Zimbabwe National Boxing and Wrestling Control Board will on Friday hold a Southern Region stakeholders consultative meeting.

In a statement, organisers of the event said the assembly would take place at Bulawayo’s Mhlahlandlela Building between 8am and 1pm.

Meanwhile, in a move that is set to give local boxing fans renewed hope that the sport is still alive and well in Zimbabwe after years of stagnation, Palace Hotel in conjunction with the Zimbabwe Boxing Federation will on Saturday hold a national boxing tournament.

The tournament that is scheduled to light up Bulawayo is being held at Palace Hotel Gardens and it will be the second time the boxing fiesta has been held at the venue after another one in September this year.

The event is scheduled to start at 11am and the organisers of the much-anticipated boxing bouts have lined up some of the activities for the day which include jumping castles, face painting and balloon art.

Palace Hotel proprietor Tapiwa Gandiwa said everything was in place for the epic boxing show and fans should look forward to a great event.

“All the groundwork has been done and we are pleased to host this tournament for the second time after we successfully hosted another one in September this year. The boxers are very excited also and looking forward to the event.  We are just encouraging boxing lovers to come in their numbers,” he said.

Gandiwa praised the promoters for their investment in the sport in recent months.

“I am so happy that boxing is back.  This is a sign that local boxing is making another huge statement on its recovery in Zimbabwe,” he said.
