Mighty Warriors camp in style

GOOD times have indeed started rolling for the Zimbabwe senior national womenas team a the Mighty Warriors a after the Zimbabwe Football Association kept its promise to adequately take care of the team in a revised training camp now underway in Bulawayo.

Unlike in previous years when the team was made to camp at Zifa village under hideous conditions, surviving on a diet of poorly cooked sadza, a traditional vegetable a ibhobola a and boiled matemba, dignity has been restored to the history making Mighty Warriors who are booked at an up market Continental Hotel in the city.

Situated in the leafy suburb of Kumalo, Continental Hotel is a two-star establishment certified by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and boasts of 30 rooms, a stark contrast to the Zifa Village which has been routinely shunned by senior national teams right down to the Young Warriors.

According to coach Shadreck Mlauzi, while in Bulawayo, the technical team will take advantage of facilities at the National University of Science and Technology (Nust) to test fitness levels of players.

The Mighty Warriors will continue their training camp in Harare after 29 March in preparation for a double assault on both the Olympics and the African Womenas Cup of Nations qualifiers that will precede the summer games.

Zimbabwe will lock horns with Tanzania in the African Womenas Cup of Nations with the Mighty Warriors travelling away for the first leg on 4-6 March.

The Mighty Warriors made history by becoming the first local side to qualify for the Olympic Games and will head into the global sporting showcase in the Brazilian seaside city of Rio de Janeiro.

Depending on the outcome of the qualifiers, they may head to Cameroon for the African Womenas Cup of Nations to be held in December.
