Mbwanda hails Div One level of competition

ZIFA Southern Region spokesperson Blessing Mbwanda says that with Division One action entering round 10 on Saturday, it was pleasing to note that the league had been very competitive as compared to last year.

Mbwanda said losing a game for any particular club in the 18-member league has proved to be very detrimental to their position on the log.

“I think last year, clubs were still recovering from Covid-19 effects. Players were also not fully fit hence low levels of competition. Heading into Week 10 action, competition has proven to be very stiff as compared to last year. Losing a game by any particular club has always meant positional changes. The points difference between the clubs is not that big.  Clubs like Mainline, CIWU and newbies Adachi have done pretty well,” said Mbwanda.

He added: “Arenel, ZPC Hwange and Talen Vision have continued from where they left last year to compete for the league title. However, I believe Adachi, will be the league title dark horses.”
Log leaders Arenel will on Saturday meet 13th placed Ratanang in a Week 10 match at White City Stadium on Saturday.

With 23 points, Arenel, who were inactive last weekend will hope to continue with their fine run when they do battle against Ratanang who are smarting from a 2-1 home defeat at the hands of CIWU.
Two points behind Arenel, second-placed ZPC Hwange will entertain Plumtree-based Mainline in the coal mining town’s Chakona ground.

In their previous encounter, the power generators handed Philani “Beefy” Ncube’s Adachi FC a shock 1-0 defeat while Mainline edged Casymn 2-1.

After their five nil emphatic triumph against Emakhandeni Pirates that took their points tally to 19 from eight outings, Talen Vision will have a date with Ajax Hotspurs in a match that will be played at White City’s B Arena.

Binga High School will be the venue for the game between Adachi and bottom of the table placed Binga Pirates.

Emakhandeni Pirates will face equally bruised Casmyn in Turk Mine. Boso 90 will fight it out against Indlovu Iyanyathela at Luveve Stadium’s B Arena.

Zimbabwe Saints will make the long trip to Victoria Falls for their game against unpredictable Mosi Rovers.

DRC United will seek to fully use home advantage when they lock horns with Mountain Climbers.
