Man steals from in-law’s house

A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Beitbridge has been nabbed for breaking into his in-law’s house and stealing about R4900.

Nigel Masona appeared before a Beitbridge magistrate facing a charge of unlawful entry. He was found guilty after trial and was convicted.

Masona was sentenced to 24 months in prison and four months was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

A further four months of his sentence was suspended on condition of restitution.He will therefore serve an effective 16 months in prison.

The court heard that on 20 October 2024, Masona went to his in-laws’ house in their absence.

While he was at the house, he was spotted by the victim’s neighbours who informed the complainant that his brother-in-law was trespassing.

The victim returned to the house after sometime and found the doors of the house open and the safe where his money had been kept had been opened.

He noted that R4900 had been stolen and reported the matter to the police.This led to the arrest of the culprit.
