A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Pumula East suburb in Bulawayo has appeared in court facing charges of allegedly stealing a cellphone worth US$20 and US$75 in cash.
Njabulo Lethukuthula Moyo appeared before Western commonage magistrate Mehluli Moyo facing a charge of theft.
He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to six months imprisonment of which three months were suspended for five years on condition he does not within that period commit any offence.
The remaining three months was suspended on condition Moyo pays restitution to the complainant Bruce Tsakano in the sum of US$70.
Moyo was arrested for the theft of a cell phone belonging to Tsakamano, a self-employed male adult.
The court heard that on October 13, 2023, at around 1pm, Moyo approached Tsakamano at his workplace with the intention of buying isitshwala/sadza. However, after a few minutes, Tsakamano realised that his cellphone was missing, and he suspected Moyo of taking it.
It is reported that Tsakamano promptly reported the incident to the police, who launched an investigation.
