A WOMAN caught her husband red-handed with a lover before he severely bashed her, causing her to suffer a miscarriage.
Melody Magagula and her husband, John Magu from Mahatshula suburb in Bulawayo have now applied for a court protection order against each other.
Magagula, who spoke in court while sitting said her husband was a violent man who turned her into a punching bag whenever they argued. Looking dejected, Magagula said her husband and his mistress were in a room at his lover’s place.
“I had to rush there and caught my husband red-handed in a room with his girlfriend. When I quizzed him about what he was doing he turned violent and severely bashed me,” she said.
She added: “I was pregnant. After that, I suffered a miscarriage and now I’m in pain. He is also in the habit of accusing me of cheating on him while he is the one who cheats on me.”
Magagula said her husband branded her a prostitute and also insulted the child she brought into the union from her previous relationship.
“He shouts at my child and calls me a loose cannon or a prostitute,” she said.
However, Magu refuted the accusations: “She is so cheeky and she does not want to be reprimanded.
When she lays her hands on anything she hits me with it.”
Despite their fallout, Magu stated that he still loved his wife.
“Despite all that is happening in our marriage, I still love her and hope the situation will improve,” he said.
Magagula responded by saying: “After beating me he apologises and I have forgiven him many times.
May this court intervene because I have been subjected to abuse for a long time.”
The presiding magistrate, Challenge Mahembe, granted Magagula a protection order. The order prevents Magu from beating and insulting her. The order is valid for five years.
Magu applied for a protection order stating that his wife verbally and physically assaulted her. The presiding magistrate, Mahembe, also granted him the protection. The order prevents his wife from verbally and emotionally abusing him. The order is valid for five years.
