A 32-YEAR-OLD man from Old Pumula suburb in Bulawayo appeared in court facing charges of assaulting his wife after she refused to give him her phone password.
Nkosilathi Ngwenya appeared before Western Commonage court magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube charged with assault.
He pleaded guilty and was fined $18 000 or (three months in prison).
Ngwenya defended his actions saying he assaulted his wife out of anger after he discovered that she was cheating on him with two different men.
He said this was after he saw some WhatsApp messages she was exchanging with the two men in question.
The court heard that on 26 October 2022, Samukeliso Ncube (28) was home when her husband requested her phone password.
It is the State’s case that Ncube refused to give her husband her phone password and this angered Ngwenya who suspected that his wife was cheating on him.
After that Ngwenya started assaulting Ncube with open hands and fists several times all over her body.
Ncube sustained a swollen face and a painful body as a result of the assault.
She went to hospital for medical examination and the matter was reported to the police leading to Ngwenya’s arrest.
