Katsande unmoved by match-fixing storm

Warriors captain Willard Katsande insists they will not be distracted by the latest match-fixing storm to have hit Zimbabwean football ahead of crucial back-to-back 2017 Afcon qualifiers against Swaziland.

Zimbabwe will be in Swaziland on Good Friday before hosting Isihlangu at the National Sports Stadium on Easter Monday.

But the matches have been a subject of an alleged plot to manipulate the results in favour of Swaziland. An Asian betting ring had been fingered as the mastermind of the attempt which has sucked in Warriors assistant coach Nation Dube as well as Zifa Executive Committee member Edzai Kasinauyo.

But Katsande is wearing a brace face, saying the match-fixing scam will not move them from achieving their target both away and at home. a?At first I was very disturbed when I heard that there were some people planning to influence results of our matches. But now I am unmoved and I know we will do well in those matches,a? Katsande said.

a?It was disheartening to hear of this plot at first. To think that most of the guys give 100 percent and some even getting seriously injured just to fly our countryas flag while a few are playing against us is hard to stomach. But I know when we meet we will be having one goal all of us. That is to win and make our nation proud.a?A – Sapa
