A family in Bulawayo’s Barbourfields suburb is recovering from a terrifying ordeal after three balaclava-clad men armed with a gun raided their home before tying them up with a wire and robbing them of US$350.

The chilling incident was confirmed by Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of armed robbery that occurred in Barbourfields suburb and we are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the three robbers who are on the run.

“Anyone with information that could lead to their whereabouts may contact any nearest police station,” he said.

A source close to the incident said the three robbers who were armed with a pistol, machete, knobkerrie and a wire smashed a window pane and gained entry.

“They went straight to the sitting room where three family members were sleeping. They woke them up before tying them together with a wire.

“They force-marched them into the bedroom where their elder sister was sleeping. When they got into her bedroom they demanded money while threatening to shoot her dead,” said the source.

Gripped with fear she gave them US$350 which she was keeping in a small box, said the family source.

As if that was not enough they then force-marched them to another room where other family members were sleeping.

“Upon getting there they tied those family members with wire and demanded money. They told them that they did not have money and they took a cellphone before they fled,” said the source.

The family members later untied themselves and reported the incident to the police.
