Gospel and Jazz songbird Vuyo Brown will make a return to music by releasing her much anticipated Extended Play (EP) titled Piece on Good Friday.

This is Vuyo’s first project to be released in 2024 and it is sponsored by Ilima Records. The record label was established by Nhimbe Trust to facilitate the creation, production, and marketing of indigenous music to enhance music business in Zimbabwe, to increase the consumption of African music products globally.

The EP features four songs which are A New Song, Iza, Morebo and Ndikuxolele.

She said that Piece is more than just a listen to as it is also an experience that fuses three genres, Afro Indie, Alternative, and Jazz – all within the contemporary Christian music discipline.

With the presentation, she said listeners can expect an authentic and introspective musical offering that resonates deeply with their hearts and souls.

“This project is a piece of my rhythm and melody. A piece of my mind. A piece of my interpretation of heavenly sounds; my thoughts on what the world needs, and my prayer. What inspired me to come up with this piece of work is that I wanted to release music. Two of the songs are songs I have had for forever. The other two are from last year and this year.

“I wanted to release these particular songs at the same time so an EP made sense. It’s a chilled, calm, listen to while driving or chilling at a get-together kind of EP. It might also make one think, pray, or reminisce on some life’s or nation’s issues,” said Brown.

She is a two-time award-winner of the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (RoilBAA), for Outstanding Female Artiste of the year for 2020 and 2021. She was nominated for Best Jazz at the Zimbabwe Music Awards (2020) and her song Thula Wazi was nominated for Roil BAA Song of the Year in 2020. In 2024, she was nominated for the Outstanding Female Musician category at the National Arts Merit Awards.
