TWO machete-wielding men who stripped a man of his jacket and a shirt before attacking him and robbing him of US$120 and a cellphone have been arrested.

The incident happened in Bulawayo’s Burnside suburb on Monday this week at around 10pm.

A source close to the victim, Talent Ratambwa said when he disembarked from a Honda Fit and started walking towards his home two suspects Forget Moyo (30) and his accomplice only identified as Sibangani pounced on him.

“They followed him from the bus stop and when he was at a dark spot Sibangani grabbed him by his neck while demanding money. Ratambwa resisted and pushed him away and paced down the road,” said the source.

While he was walking Forget reportedly attacked him with the handle of a machete on the head.

“He fell down and while he was on the ground, the pair rained blows on him and kicked him all over the body.

“They stripped him of his jacket and shirt before they took US$120 and a cellphone and fled,” said the source.

Ratambwa later got up and went to a police station where he reported the incident.

Police conducted investigations leading to the arrest of Moyo and Sibangani.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We would like to discourage members of the public from boarding unregistered vehicles as that might put their lives at risk. If they intend to walk they should walk in groups and they should avoid dark spots,” he said.
