The golfing community in Bulawayo received a significant boost during the All Africa Golf Team Championship 2024 (AAGTC), as the city’s three major golf clubs were awarded junior golf kits through the AAGTC Legacy Golf Program.

The equipment was funded by a generous US$10,000 donation from Delta Beverages to the Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA), which earmarked the funds for golf development across the nation.

Captains from Harry Allen Golf Club, Bulawayo Country Club, and Bulawayo Golf Club accepted the kits on behalf of their clubs, proudly sponsored by Delta and The R&A. This initiative aims to foster youth participation in golf, encouraging growth and competitiveness in the sport.

“The support from Delta and The R&A is invaluable,” said Bulawayo Golf Club captain, Joshua Lepar.

“These junior golf kits will help our young players develop their skills and represent Zimbabwe with pride.”

Tonderai Tshuma, Plant Manager at the lager beer plant in Bulawayo, who represented Marketing Director Irimai Muzorewa, emphasized Delta’s commitment to grassroots golf development in Zimbabwe.

“As Delta Beverages, we are dedicated to supporting golf at the grassroots level through various funding initiatives. We value our partnership with the ZGA, which is leading the charge in golf development in the country,” Tshuma stated.

During the AAGTC prize-giving ceremony, ZGA President Martin Chikwana explained that the decision to allocate the US$10,000 to golf development was unanimous among his executive team.

“When we received this funding from Delta Beverages, we deliberated on its best use. We agreed that it should support development, so we purchased golf kits for each of our 40 clubs across the country. Tonight, the clubs represented here will receive their kits, while the others will be sent to their respective recipients,” Chikwana announced.

Given that Bulawayo hosted the AAGTC, this initiative underscored the city’s commitment to golf development and its potential to nurture future champions.

With the backing of the Legacy Golf Program, Bulawayo’s junior golfers are set to make a significant impact on the entire country and Africa golf scene.
