Bulawayo Choristers Choir crowned champions

Bulawayo Choristers Choir were crowned as the champions at this year’s Siyephambili Choral Festival which took place on 27 August at the Family of God Church (FOG) Bulawayo.

The award-winning choir also took first place for being the Best Dressed Choir.

Apart from the winners, other choirs that took part in the competition were Bulawayo Voices of Victory, Catholic Gregorian Choral Choir, Sound of Joy Chorale and Sweet Melodies Chorale.

Sound of Joy became the first runner-up while Bulawayo Voices of Victory were second runner-up.

In the competition, each choir had to perform two songs, a set piece song and their own choice and this is where Bulawayo Choristers Choir showed off their extraordinary talent throughout the competition.

Busani Nkomo, the chairman of Siyephambili Choral Festival, said: “Bulawayo Choristers Choir was the oldest in the group, their vast experience has allowed them to win different competitions including their current triumph.”

On their shelves, Bulawayo Choristers Choir boast of several accolades including receiving a Toyota Hiace Baby Quantum (18-seater), which they won for being the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) choral champions in 2018.

The choir was formed on 22 December 2014.

To date, the choir comprises 120 members, mainly school leavers from Bulawayo community and other parts of Matabeleland such as Pumula Mission in Tsholotsho and Esigodini, among others.

Meanwhile, the choir is preparing for a trip to Harare for the finals of the national festival, slated for December.
