IT was a game that the police made sure would be delayed or not played at all, in what was one of the biggest gaffes by the home team Arenel.

Arenel Movers were home to Herentals College at Luveve Stadoum. The match started on time but in the absence of the Zimbabwe Republic Police details, who opted to go out of the stadium, the game delayed.

The police were seen driving off the stadium a few minutes before kick off.

Arenel Movers chief executive officer Juma Phiri told the Zimpapers Sports Hub crew that they owed the police money for their friendly match against TelOne which was played last week, during the international break.

The amount owed was not disclosed.

Eventually, the match commissioner, Faith Mloyi had to call for a stoppage that lasted 24 minutes as a solution was sought to have the match continue.

At that moment, stadium gates were closed and that locked out a number of people who had queued outside.

Gates were closed because pf the absence of police with fans eager to make their way through illegal points.

Soon after, the police returned in their truck and the match resumed.

That delayed however, seemed not to have put an effect on the game. Both teams played their all but failed to find the back of the net.

A stalemate it was. It ended nil all.

Arenel Movers coach, Farai Tawachera said his charges’ undoing was on failure to convert their chances upfront.

“Our finishing was not up to scratch. We tried everything, we tried to create chances but, we couldn’t push the ball over the line,” said Tawachera.

The visiting side’s coach Celestino Benza said it was a point gained for them.

“It’s a point gained, especially considering that we were playing away from home and managed a nil all draw, as in the last game we conceded two goals and for us having a clean sheet away from home is good,” he said.
