IT will be an action-packed Easter for cricket enthusiasts in the city as there are a number of Bulawayo Metropolitan Cricket Association (BMCA) First and Second Leagues matches lined up for the holiday which starts today.
With the long holiday, cricket enthusiasts will be in for a treat as they witness the crème de la crème of local cricket. There are two matches lined up for the First League and six in the Second League. There is a derby lined up in the First League as log leaders, Amakhosi Cricket Club 1 clash with Amakhosi Cricket Club 2 at the city’s ceremonial home of cricket, Queens Sports Club on Saturday.
On Sunday, Bulawayo Athletic Club (BAC) 1 will play host to Queens Sports Club 1 at the same venue to round up First League matches. Nketa Cricket Club 1 are on a bye.
Action in the Second League starts today with two games lined up. BAC 2 will host new boys, Dingani Bookshop Cricket Club at BAC while at Emakhandeni Cricket Club, ZRP will have a date with Nketa Cricket Club 2.
On Saturday, Dingani Bookshop will return to action with a clash against National University of Science and Technology (Nust) at Emakhandeni Cricket Club while Queens Sports Club 2 and BAC 2 will face off at BAC.
The Easter matches will be rounded off on Sunday when Riverdale Roosters face Wholesale Beef Bulls at the Old Mutual Academy of Cricket Excellence (former Heath Streak Academy) while Nketa 2 will be up against NUST at BAC.
Champions Cricket Club are on a bye. On the Second League log standings, BAC 2 are sitting at the top of the standings with 30 points from four wins in four matches and are followed by Nketa 2 with 28 points. Nketa 2 have played five games, won four and lost one. To complete the top three there is Wholesale Beef Bulls with 27 points (six matches, three wins and three defeats).
First League matches are 50-over games while Second League teams play 40-over matches.-@brandon_malvin
