HIGHLANDERS defence stalwart Peter Muduhwa has been invited to undergo a two-week trial stint by top Mozambique topflight giants UD do Songo, B Metro Sport has learnt.
In an invitational letter dated 22 October that was gleaned by this publication, the club through their secretary-general Pensar Jose wrote: “…on behalf our president Mr Franscisco Antonio Xavier dos Santos we invite you Mr Peter Muduhwa, a Zimbabwean nationality who holds the CN551346 Passport, issued in Bulawayo on 31 October 2011 valid until 30 October 2021, to visit the UD So club in Mozambique from October 26 to November 12, 2020 and to take professional tests.”
The Mozambican side, which is based in Tete Province added: “In these terms, the club declares that during November 12, 2020 and to take professional tests. In these terms the club declares that, during his stay in national territory, he undertakes to guarantee him the expenses of accommodation, food and others that are necessary and also responsible for the payment of the expenses resulting from his return, if necessary. Remember, that you must bring the COVID 19 test carried out 72 hours in advance and observe, all health protocols during the trip.”
While the Warriors fringe player is, however, still in the country, his invitation to Mozambique comes after Highlanders Football Club, led by its chief executive officer Nhlanhla Dube, assistant coach Mandla “Lulu” Mpofu, Muduhwa, captain Ariel Sibanda, midfielders Nqobizitha Masuku, Godfrey Makaruse and Bukhosi “Zakhu” Sibanda were a fortnight ago spotted at Johane Masowe weChishanu leader Madzibaba Emmanuel Mutumwa’s shrine located in Selbourne Park, where his congregants were attending a three-day church conference.
It was at the church conference that Dube told Madzibaba Mutumwa’s congregants that former FC Platinum midfielder Winston Mhango, who has been turning out for Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors, was seeking to retrace his steps to Zimbabwe and join Bosso.
Ex-Bulawayo City and Ngezi Platinum Stars holding midfielder Xolisani “Scara” Moyo, who is in the books of Manica Diamonds, was also among the Bosso family members who visited Madzibaba Mutumwa’s “Holy” site.
At the shrine, the players took turns to kneel before Madzibaba Mutumwa who assured them that his church was always praying for the success of the club.
With other congregants facing east and in prayer the players were overheard screaming: “Chipo Changu huya (Come my blessing).”
As for Muduhwa the invitation comes after he fluffed opportunities to play outside the country, the recent one being a botched deal to Sudan.
Muduhwa’s planned move to Sudan collapsed after facilitators were reportedly angered on discovering that he had an agent on the eve of his departure.
The Pumula-bred footie had been linked with a move to one of the top clubs in Sudan, Al-Merreikh, Al Hilal, Al Ahly Shendi, Al Khartoum SC or Hilal Al-Obayed.
In January 2017, Muduhwa and Prince Dube went for trials at the now defunct South African Premier Soccer League club Bidvest Wits.
Dube was signed by SuperSport United where he, however, failed to make an impact, resulting in him being loaned and then subsequently returning to Bosso in 2018.
Muduhwa’s contract with Highlanders expires at the end of the year and his performance in the heart of defence has continuously attracted interest from local coaches.
